Screening: "Power" with Baltimore Abolition Movement

Screening: "Power" with Baltimore Abolition Movement

Thursday, May 15th 2025
6:00 pm
Free School Classroom
Join us for a screening of the documentary POWER followed by a facilitated discussion.

Johns Hopkins is silently hiring, training, and deploying an armed Police Department (JHPD) with full arrest powers. The JHPD will operate far beyond campus boundaries, patrolling our neighborhoods, parks, and public spaces. Controlled solely by an institution with a long history of dispossession, disinvestment, and destruction in our city, the JHPD will answer to no one but Hopkins itself — not to the public, and certainly not to those it will police.

POWER gives a history of policing in America and a picture of how modern policing is an irredeemable and unreformable arm of state violence. We invite you to learn this history with us and imagine a future without JHPD, policing, and prisons.

Schedule 6:00PM-7:30PM: Screening of Power 7:30-8:30: Facilitated discussion of the film
